Using SAS: Table of Contents

This module provides an overview of SAS software for statistical analysis.

In SAS, the primary functions are to work with the software itself, read in your data, manipulate that data, and perform various calculations on the data.

Use the Table of Contents (next page) to select a topic of interest. It is ordered by topic as you would need it while analysing a dataset. Feel free to choose any topic of interest, as each is linked to related topics.

Small examples are provided, and links to the official SAS documentation encourage you to delve deeper. To return to topic list, click Using SAS: Table of Contents link on the upper right on each page.

What is SAS? SAS Institute Inc. has been developing its data analysis software for almost 30 years. The "SAS System" is very successful, with annual sales over $1B, and worldwide usage. SAS software has grown to include database, quality control, forecasting, statistical analysis and information delivery components. DAWG will use only a small subset of these features, in particular the products SAS/BASE, SAS/STAT and SAS/GRAPH.

Generally, individuals do not purchase SAS. In fact, SAS can only be licensed on an annual basis. But most large academic and business entities have a SAS license that allows its employees to use the software.

Students should be aware that the SAS Learning Edition can be purchased for several years of use, for educational purposes only, a very cost effective way to ensure access to the software.
